John Woodnutt, entrepreneur and inventor of electronic lighting control technology, has been awarded an MBE for services to Business and Entrepreneurship in the 2023 New Year Honours list. John pioneered lighting controls in the late 1950s and the Honour recognises his unique innovations in lighting controls and his six decades of commitment to creating smart, sustainable building solutions.

Delmatic are excited to announce an award win at the prestigious 2023 DALI Lighting Control Awards, winning the infrastructure category for the third successive year. The three-peat is testament to the hard work of all involved as we continue to provide cutting edge DALI-2 solutions across some of the worlds most iconic projects.
Delmatic’s DALI lighting management systems at the Zayed International Airport, the world’s largest lighting management system, won in the Infrastructure category. The winning projects were selected by an international judging panel of lighting designers, lighting magazine editors, and representatives from global lighting organizations.
The Judges were particularly impressed by the sheer scale of the network and the exemplary use of a broad range of DALI features, all contributing to the airport’s emphasis on passenger experience, sustainability and energy efficiency. The system plays a crucial role in what is a true ‘Smart Building’ with interfaces between the lighting management system and BMS, Fire Alarm, AV and Emergency Central Battery systems. There’ s also an innovative use of DALI in the arrival halls to illuminate either red or green LEDs on the turnstiles, via an interface with the immigration control portal.
DALI, which stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, is a dedicated protocol for digital lighting control that enables the easy installation of robust, scalable and flexible lighting management networks. The DALI Lighting Awards are held by the DALI Alliance each year and recognises the very best use of DALI lighting control applications and solutions around the world. Delmatic’s outstanding achievement at the 2023 DALI Awards is testament to our commitment in the design and application of cutting-edge DALI-2 lighting management systems comprising DALI-qualified controllers and devices.

The new Zayed International Airport Terminal A spans 742,000 square metres, making it one of the largest airport terminals in the world and a spectacular gateway to Abu Dhabi.
The terminal incorporates the largest DALI lighting control system in the world delivering smart, site-wide lighting management and monitoring, as well as smart interfacing with the BMS, Emergency UPS, Fire Alarm, and AV systems via BACnet/IP and VFC.
The system, manages and monitors around 180,000 DALI lamps, 35,000 DALI emergency lamps, 10,000 DALI sensors, switches and scene set panels, all coordinated by 3400 single and multi-universe DALI control modules.
