John Woodnutt, entrepreneur and inventor of electronic lighting control technology, has been awarded an MBE for services to Business and Entrepreneurship in the 2023 New Year Honours list. The headquarters building was the first in the Gulf region to focus on energy-efficiency and sustainability. Delmatic worked with ADIA and the project team to develop an integrated, connected solution that maps energy-consuming services and links these precisely to occupation.
The connected system controls lighting, blinds and HVAC throughout the complex and optimises energy efficiency by relating lighting and air-conditioning to occupation of individual areas making it one of the most integrated and efficient buildings in the region.
The system provides DALI dimming and monitoring throughout the 44 story office tower as well as the adjacent parking and amenities buildings.
DALI multisensors monitor occupancy and daylight and adjust lighting and dimming levels as well as air-conditioning speed and temperature band based upon occupation and solar gain. Presence, absence and daylight control of lighting minimises energy consumption as well as reducing the cooling load while energy savings are further enhanced by relating VAV operation & temperature to occupation: ASHRAE studies show that widening the temperature control band in an office by just two degrees achieves almost 10% energy savings.
Occupants have total control of services in their space: desktop touchpads in perimeter offices allow individuals to adjust lighting, window blinds and temperature, while occupants in inner open-plan areas can switch and dim lighting from their IP telephones.
The entire network is managed and monitored through graphical software which displays the real time status of lighting, blinds and AC as well as enabling the services to be reconfigured to suit changing use of the building space.
Delmatic’s association with ADIA goes back more than thirty years, and good experience with a Delmatic system installed in the early 1980s in ADIA’s original headquarter building resulted in Delmatic being selected for the new headquarter complex.
