Robust control across the Metro network
Delmatic systems provide intelligent, secure and energy-efficient control of lighting within front-of-house, back-of-house and external areas across the Metro network as well as within the nine stations: each station is 300 metres long and each of the two 9,900 m² platforms holds up to 3,000 passengers with wide ramps to ease pedestrian flows in and out of the stations.
Lighting is configured into a variety of scenarios activated from the station control panel as well as via open protocol integration with the BMS: the system also includes lighting modes based upon Hajj or non-Hajj periods and a range of daily operational and maintenance modes.
Zero tolerance for defects
Delmatic worked closely with the design team from an early stage to develop the system application and integration and to ensure reliable and robust operation on a project with zero tolerance for defects. Quality & reliability of the highest order were crucial to this major public infrastructure system and Delmatic’s track record over many years was instrumental in its selection for the project.
The Metro transports pilgrims to the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifah and Mount Arafat – three stops during a journey that traces the steps of the Prophet Muhammad and Abraham. The four-day annual Hajj pilgrimage draws around 2.5 million worshippers and the Metro replaces around 50,000 buses reducing pollution as well as congestion. The lime green Metro cars speed along elevated lines, passing over the white tents where hundreds of thousands of pilgrims spend the night on the way to the major holy sites.
